They do research on something called inattentional blindness, or how people fail to see things that are directly in front of them when they’re focused on something else.

Why Seeing (The Unexpected) Is Often Not Believing : NPR

Because: The story, ends with the line, “But do we always see, when we look?” The answer is often no, studies show. This research was (sadly) inspired by an unfortunate incident of the mistaken beating of a Boston police officer that others on the scene, Kenneth Conley specifically, failed to notice.

What I take from it? Further proof as to the importance of observing it all, being open to it all, rather than narrowly focused on one specific thing in life.
