In Response to Todd Akin
Because: Honestly, I have held off on posting this because I am still in shock that it is even necessary in this day and age to have to deign to respond in any way, that this would just not be completely dismissed as crazy talk. That these statements were possibly uttered is so repulsive, not to mention blatantly incorrect in more ways than one, that I have had a difficult time verbalizing any sort of response. Where do you even begin the discussion when someone is so ignorant? And is this really indicative the current landscape for women in a developed, leading nation? As one friend said, if this one person felt confident enough to say this in public, on-the-record conversation, imagine how many others are thinking it. I fear to know.
Here is one article in particular, heavy, brutally honest and incredibly moving, that was written by a Medill alumnus. Please read it.
