Because: This is an interesting story about an interesting character with an interesting start-up. It’s about a Yale grad, some globe-hopping, international journalism, an online-to-offline start-up and a lot of pushing the limits.
Because: How interesting the crew Northwestern University, home of the Medill School of Journalism, is also involved in this artificial intelligence startup. Turf wars!
This is fascinating, though, and I don’t see it as necessarily a bad thing. Perhaps this will give journalists more time to dedicate to stories computers cannot write, such as in-depth features and investigations, opinion pieces, etc.
Because: Interesting. I am going to refrain from leaving commentary along with this article, mostly because I really just don’t know what to say about it, much less what to think. I have a number of mixed reactions, and I think that is directly related to how this article also is kind of all over the place. One minute it’s a great artistic endeavor that the “real job” has been put on hold and then it jumps to talk about college graduates on food stamps. I will say I think there is a bit of lumping of unique circumstances together and generalizing happening with this piece.
Also, there’s something very disconcerting about the choice to include this piece in the Fashion & Style section.
